Every new day just looks more hopeless than the day before. With all the things happening in our country and around the world one can't help but admit that there's just too much hate and too much pain in this world. So, are we really hopeless? It seems that God has decided to just stop for one moment to make each one of us realize the consequences of all the bad things we have become accustomed to doing since the beginning of time.
It's so easy to become and remain jaded these days. It's a sad fact that it is becoming so difficult for us to trust one another. One can have breakfast with a perceived ally only to have that person turn into one's worst enemy by dinner time.
I'm as jaded as can be, specially now that I'm also confronted with seemingly insurmountable personal problems. But several weeks ago I had the chance to observe all sorts of people when my Dad was admitted at the Medical City because of a prostate problem (Thank God he's okay now!) I had no choice but to spend a dreadful couple of days at the hospital.
I spent almost half a day at the emergency waiting area because my Dad couldn't get a room right away. (Imagine, this is currently the most expensive hospital in the metropolis and yet it is fully-booked!) While there I saw all sorts of sick people from babies to lolos and lolas, all accompanied by loving friends and relatives (and the whole barangay!) The sick people were there because they don't want to die. They want to live. Their friends and family brought them there because they can't bear the thought of seeing their loved ones suffering, and dying. They want their loved ones to get well.
Then it hit me. A very simple realization: There's still a lot of love in the world! With love still around us we can't be that hopeless. It gives me reason to believe that things will get better, if we could only learn to use that love to cover up all our hate and all the pain it has caused.
Let's love.
